Why Christian Education?
“No Pupil is greater than his teacher; but every pupil, when he has completed his training, will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40). Proverbs 22:6 says that our students will develop an appetite for whatever they are taught and as they mature, they will not change. Both the Old and New Testaments teach us that the responsibilities of the training of our students are far reaching.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…” (Proverbs 1:7a).
“For the Lord gives wisdom; out of His mouth come knowledge and understanding”(Proverbs 2:6). “…
And of the Father, and of Christ; in whom are hid all
the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:2b-3).
The following represent some of the reasons for a Christian education:
- To teach students the fear of the Lord
- To teach students their heritage and future in God
- To develop an appetite for true wisdom and knowledge
- To develop Godly character
- To have students taught by believers
- To allow the parent to remain in control of their child’s education
- To aid students in developing a Christian worldview
- The Scriptures command it for God’s students
- Students belong to God, not the government
Statement of Philosophy
Unity Christian Academy’s philosophy is based upon a Christian worldview holding that God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, the ultimate reality, and the source and essence of all goodness and truth. All creation is related to Him and has the purpose of glorifying Him.
We believe the Bible, as the infallible and inspired Word of God, to be the final and authoritative revelation of God concerning all matters of faith, truth, and practice. God reveals Himself through nature, through history, and most explicitly, through Jesus Christ, His Son. Therefore, Christ and the Bible must be central to every subject or activity allowing the biblical viewpoint to permeate the entire school program.
Man is the creation of God apart from any so-called evolutionary process and is of infinite worth. Man is also a sinner by nature and by choice because of the fall of Adam. He is separated from God and is incapable of glorifying God apart from the atoning death of Jesus Christ by which men are reconciled to God. It is only through the reconciling work of Christ that man’s needs can be met.
Effective education can best be accomplished in an environment that recognizes that all truth is God’s truth. Because all wisdom and knowledge are based upon the fear of the Lord, only a redeemed person can fully understand truth as revealed by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, all personnel of Unity Christian Academy must have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ, and must serve as role models for the students (II Timothy 4:12)
Scripture clearly teaches that parents are responsible for the total education of their children. Teachers and administrators assist the parents, helping them fulfill their God-given responsibilities. The home, school, and church should together prepare the student for a life of fellowship with God and service to man.
